The first evening of the final session of 2009 kicked off tonight Tuesday 15th September in East and Old Kirk Hall Forfar. There were 3 full sets of dancers including 5 new visitors as well as two “walking wounded” spectators. The class was structured in a slightly different way and included revision of steps and formations. This was a very welcome change in my view. NOTE: That for new dancers, the class from next week (Tuesday 22nd September), will begin at 7:15pm to allow practice of the steps to take place.
5 dances were completed during the class. The new dancers picked up the dances very easily and I think this was probably a result of the well structured method of working through the dances with the teacher.
Looking forward to this new format continuing over the remainder of the session.

The Branch 56th AGM concluded this evening 2nd June 2009 with the election of our new Chair, Liam Bradley. Linda Spence stepping down, thanked all those that had supported her time as Chair. The meeting was attended by around 20 or so members. This is approaching 50% of the membership so not a bad turnout. The meeting ended around 9:15pm as the new committee briefly met together for the first time.
Session dates and more details will appear on our web site.
One mystery now solved is the location of the Chain of Office, this is with the secretary (now Treasurer) Kate Murray, who is to send this for engraving with the past Chair’s details. The Chain can be seen on our website here ->

The upcoming End of Session Social event will be held in the East & Old Kirk Hall starting at 7:30 on Tuesday 31st March 2009. The music will be provided by John White. The arrangements for food are yet to be decided. The committee would ideally like to “provide” the food so as not to place a burden on the membership. The members have recently contributed magnificently to the Annual Dance and the committee felt it was time to return something to the members. There is to be a meeting on Tuesday 24th to decide the format of the food for the evening. IF YOU HAVE SUGGESTIONS OR FEEDBACK OF ANY KIND – - PLEASE CONTACT A COMMITTEE MEMBER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
The committee also decided that rather than attempt to book another “venue” it was best to hold the social in our own hall. The feedback from previous excursions to other halls or hotels has not been at all positive in the past, and the additional costs have not been seen as “worth” it from the feedback. Once again if you feel this is not so, then voice your opinions to your committee.
PLEASE DO CONTACT ANY COMMITTE MEMBER WITH YOUR SUGGESTIONS, FEEDBACK OR COMPLAINTS.
Unless your committee know your thoughts, they cannot take any decisions that have any hope of pleasing the majority. Remember, you are MEMBERS of the BRANCH and as with any walk of life, if you do not contribute then decisions have to be made FOR you, in the absence of good quality debate, opinion and feedback.

AGM – NEWS FLASH – Three new committee members are needed to form the 2009/2010 committee. Without these volunteers the branch cannot function. Please inform all your contacts that the branch needs their support to continue beyond 2009 session. Thanks.

RSCDS FORFAR
The hall was looking great, a good arrangement of tables and chairs meant that the maximum dancing space was utilised. It was certainly needed, with an estimated 120 people in attendance, it was a very busy dance. The music was supplied by Marian Andersons band and it was superb . The dances were relatively well known, so our very own committee members, involved with “re-capping” did extremely well and there was very little double takes for the re-capping. This meant that we were able to work through the program at a good pace to arrive at our supper break. The food was all supplied by branch members and a huge selection of foods arrived, from fruit, sandwiches, cakes of many kinds including lemon cake from Maggie that was excellent and a pollenta cake from Jonathan which was equally scrumptious, there were merangues and excellent tray bakes of all kinds. Thanks to all who worked so hard to supply the supper.
The second half kicked off unusually with a strathspey The Minister on The Loch. A fine way to ease one back into the swing of dancing after a feast of a supper ! We danced through until around 11pm when we ended the evening with two rounds of Pollharrow Burn. The traditional raffle and supply of choc-ices broke up the second half of the evening. To say the dance was a resounding success, would I think, be an understatement. Here’s looking forward to 2010 at The Reid Hall Forfar.

We arrived 7pm sharp for 7:30 meal. The welcome was warm enough and the hall was decorated for Xmas.
The food was served efficiently although the vegetables were undercooked but everything was hot and at the end of the day we are not out on a gastronomic delight evening, we are out to dance and enjoy the social event.
The music was fine for dancing but the dancing was not exactly HOT, decidedly luke warm would have to be the best description of the dance quality, despite excellent re-caps by Shiela the dancing just didn’t seem to take off somehow.
Overall an average night was had.
If anyone has some photos please contact me and I will upload these to the system.
