The upcoming End of Session Social event will be held in the East & Old Kirk Hall starting at 7:30 on Tuesday 31st March 2009. The music will be provided by John White. The arrangements for food are yet to be decided. The committee would ideally like to “provide” the food so as not to place a burden on the membership. The members have recently contributed magnificently to the Annual Dance and the committee felt it was time to return something to the members. There is to be a meeting on Tuesday 24th to decide the format of the food for the evening. IF YOU HAVE SUGGESTIONS OR FEEDBACK OF ANY KIND – - PLEASE CONTACT A COMMITTEE MEMBER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
The committee also decided that rather than attempt to book another “venue” it was best to hold the social in our own hall. The feedback from previous excursions to other halls or hotels has not been at all positive in the past, and the additional costs have not been seen as “worth” it from the feedback. Once again if you feel this is not so, then voice your opinions to your committee.

Unless your committee know your thoughts, they cannot take any decisions that have any hope of pleasing the majority. Remember, you are MEMBERS of the BRANCH and as with any walk of life, if you do not contribute then decisions have to be made FOR you, in the absence of good quality debate, opinion and feedback.

AGM – NEWS FLASH – Three new committee members are needed to form the 2009/2010 committee. Without these volunteers the branch cannot function. Please inform all your contacts that the branch needs their support to continue beyond 2009 session. Thanks.

In recent years a suitable venue for the end of term social has become a problem. The Royal Hotel is the obvious choice as it is convenient for everyone and has a function room of the right size. However the current catering arrangements there are appauling and have made this a poor choice. There are few alternatives in the town – the Plough is one but again the catering there is just as bad if not worse that the Royal and the other facilities are poor. It is a bit of a dilema. We have used the hall before but this involves committee members is a large amount of work and consequently their eveing is taken up in organisation rather than enjoyment of the food and the dancing. The committee work very hard throughout the year and they deserve a night off at Christmas and Easter. They should not have to wait on everyone and provide all the food! It seems to me that the hall with the committee providing the food is a last resort.
It is too late for this end of term function but perhaps for the future the members could be given the opportunity to make suggestions. Could and out of town venue be a possibility with transport laid on or would this prove too costly? I think everyone should be given the opportunity to put forward an opinion. The social is also not just about dancing but also about having a pleasant meal with the opportunity to relax and have a chat with others. During normal class time there is very little time to do this. It is a poor state of affairs that a town the size of Forfar cannot provide a decent venue for our dance. I would be interested to hear other views on the matter.
