Tuesday 1st December- 2009
A busy night with a fair number of the dances for the forthcoming Xmas Social being practiced. Will update shortly. Unfortunately due to my machine being dead I have yet to load up cribs etc on the new machine but will soon add these here again.

Monday 30th November- 2009 - St Andrews Night
A good number of our members attended a dance in Kirriemuir guests of the Scottish Dance Club at the St Andrews Church Hall. Live music by Deardrie Adamson was very good and the hosts made us all feel very welcome indeed. A grand night had by all wo attended. Thanks for inviting us.

Tuesday 24th November- 2009
A nice mix of dances tonight, including shiftin bobbins, midnight oil and brisk young lad, all approached with a relaxed fun atitude- BUT – -
Apparently John White our live music maestro thinks we are all rubbish so we needed to practice – especially midnight oil.  The phrase people in glass houses comes to mind here ! I just wonder sometimes why we are always under pressure to “perform” to other people’s standards. Not everyone can be perfect at everything ! It’s also worth remembering that by making these overt comments some people’s feelings do get hurt and that’s simply unkind. I think John would be well advised to exercise a little more discretion.
It is very difficult for Shiela to strike a balance with a class, if you pitch it too high and technical you drive people away, if you make it too simple and boring, you drive people away. I think we have a good balance BUT I have said before that I do feel we should keep the structured approach to the classes that we got the first couple of weeks of this session, especially to revise “formations” and then use them within the selected dances for the evening.

Back from holidays but missed class due to working at home!

On My Holidays
Tuesday 3rd November- 2009
A cold evening and enough once again for a three good sets of dancers. Many of the dances done tonight will be danced at the forthcoming RSCDS AGM open dance on Saturday 7th November in Perth at the Bells Sports Centre. This is a massive venue and no doubt the hall will be packed with hundreds of dancers. The floor here is very very hard being concrete covered with sports flooring. The dancers will be well advised to have support in their pumps for this night. Hopefully they will enjoy the experience.

Tuesday 20th October- 2009
First night with live music of this session. John White played for us for a range of the dances that have been  done up to this point in the session. The last dance of the evening – Peggy Dewar provided much fun and a fitting end to the dance.
I get the impression that John perhaps thinks our standards are not as high as may be seen elsewhere, to counter that I would say that our FUN standards are high and we try not to take things to a level that detracts from the fact that we are there to have fun and enjoy ourselves.
I often feel that RSCDS clubs and dances are a lot of fun but there are “factions” within RSCDS who contiually write and comment about etiquet, standards, dress, dance partners, you name it basically, and in doing so are probably putting loads of potential younger dancers off for life. There was a point in my own dance journey where I was almost put off by a completely derogatory attitude of these “types” at an open RSCDS dance. Thankfully I was given a great bit of advice from an experienced dancer who comes to Forfar. That was just to get up to every possible dance and if in the early days you make a nuciance of yourself then so be it, others in the dance should help to guide you and if not then it’s as much their own fault if the dance goes wrong. Repetition is the only way to learn our dances and if you are frightened of messing up a set you will simply never learn.
Tuesday 13th October- 2009
Missed this class – no report
Tuesday 6th October- 2009

Tuesday 30th September – 2009
4 Full sets of dancers tonight and lovely to see Graham and Anne return to join the group, hopefully they enjoyed the dances.
The “structured” approach which was so enjoyed on the first evening seems to have tailed off aleady, that’s a bit of a shame as it is so much more helpful if “formations” included in the dances of the evening are practiced and then danced, and it’s good for newer folk and experienced folk to practice their steps now and again. Hopefully it will return in future classes.
During the evening we danced the following dances, with a smile and a laugh at times !!

Tuesday 17th March
Dancing to John White, the group enjoyed a very pleasant evening. Perhaps a little laboured with “teaching” when we have live music. When we have a live musician perhaps we should just get a seift “re-cap” and take it from there. We did however dance a fair number of dances and the small group of 3 sets semed to enjoy the class.
The upcoming End of Session Social event was announced and this will be held in the East & Old Kirk Hall starting at 7:30 as normal on Tuesday 31st March 2009. The music will be supplied again by John White. The arrangements for food are yet to be decided. The committee would ideally like to “provide” the food so as not to place a burden on the membership. The members having recently contributed magnificently to the Annual Dance, the committe felt it was time to return something to the members. There is to be a meeting on Tuesday 24th to decide the format of the food for the eveing. IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE CONTACT ANY COMMITTEE MEMBER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Tuesday 3rd February
A group of around 18 folk turned out on a very cold a frosty evening with snow on the ground. A cheery group and a good mix of dances included in the evening, some in preparation for the forthcoming Annual Dance on 20th Feb.  There was some feedback received regarding the cribs from either the blog or the web site. It seems that the crib does not open correctly for viewing or printing. I have tested it now on several different machines and it all seems ok to me. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTY WITH THE CRIB.

Tuesday 13th January
Unfortunately I could not make this evening so no reporting – sorry
Tuesday 6th January
A new Year and the beginning of a new session. The class started with a group of 28 making the trip to join us for the dancing.  A very jolly evening if a little “rusty” for some of us at times. A break over Xmas is perhaps not a good thing, unless you manage to get out dancing locally. Check out all the events available with this excellent website by JOHN M STURROCK
